Altered Beast Classic

Altered Beast Classic is an arcade game released by SEGA in 1988 that went on to achieve cult status thanks to the number of ports of it that came out later, especially the Mega Drive/Genesis edition.

The game is set in ancient Greece, where you play a centurion brought back to life by Zeus who must save the goddess Athena from the clutches of the demon Neff. To do it you've got to make your way through several levels by defeating creatures from the hereafter while collecting a set of orbs. These objects confer ever more power on you until eventually you shape-shift into various different beasts.

In this side-scrolling beat-'em-up every level winds up with a final boss for you to defeat. With the touch controls you can move your character, jump, punch, and kick. And once you turn into a beast you'll have a wider array of attacks as well.

The game makes up part of the so-called SEGA Forever line, a series of games for mobile devices officially released by the company that are both identical in gameplay to the originals and offer the chance to customize the touch controls and even save your progress at any time. All are free-to-play, meaning you'll simply see a few ads in the start menu. Once you start playing there are no banners nor anything of the sort to slow down your gaming experience.
